February Section News

The North Texas Section met on 21st of February at Ernie’s Seafood in Ft. Worth. There were 15 members in attendance to hear Terry Tamutus speak on the topic “Acoustic Emission (AE) Applications” Mr. Tamutus’s presentation covered the utilization of AE technology to provide a health monitoring system for concrete members, steel structures and cable stay bridges. This health monitoring system will allow the local, state, and federal agencies an additional tool to analyze bridges and bridge components to determine their integrity and safety.

Mr. Tamutus is the director of sales at (PAC) Physical Acoustics Corporation .His work related experience covers the areas of R&D, applications, field testing, training and manufacturing/instrumentation design for the past 18 years. He has made numerous presentations to ASNT, US Government agencies such as DOD, FAA, NASA, FHwA and companies include Boeing, Lockheed, Seagate, Power Generation and Refineries to advance the use and implementation of AE technology. PAC has been working with FHwA, universities and DOT for bridge testing since 1972.
